The transition from the velvet darkness of unconsciousness to reality was a slow, agonizing crawl.
The first thing I felt was a rhythmic, pounding ache behind my eyesβa sharp, pulsating reminder of the chemical-soaked cloth that had stolen my senses. My head felt like it was being crushed by a heavy vice, and as I tried to lift my hand to soothe the pain, the cold, metallic rattle of chains shattered the silence of the room.
My eyes snapped open, but the relief of waking was instantly replaced by a paralyzing flood of terror.
I tried to sit up, but I was pinned. My wrists were pulled wide and locked into heavy silver cuffs bolted to the headboard of a massive, cold bed. I looked down, my breath catching in my throat as I realized my ankles were similarly shackled, spread apart and fixed to the footboard. I was splayed out, vulnerable and completely immobilized.
But the horror didn't stop there. As my eyes adjusted to the dim, oppressive lighting, I realized that I was entirely naked. My school uniformβthe white shirt, the skirt, my underwearβwas gone. Every stitch of clothing had been stripped from me while I was unconscious, leaving me exposed in a way that made my skin crawl with a deep, visceral shame.
I looked around the room, and my heart began to race like a trapped bird. This wasn't a bedroom; it was a sanctuary of shadows. The space was enormous, but instead of furniture, the walls were lined with things that made my blood run cold. I saw boxes stacked high, strange silver clips hanging from the walls, and metallic tools that looked like they belonged in a nightmare. The atmosphere was heavy with the scent of expensive leather and something metallicβlike the smell of a gun or cold steel. It felt illegal. It felt like a place where people were brought to be forgotten.
The silence was deafening. "Help me!" I screamed, my voice cracking and echoing against the cold walls.
"Somebody please help me! Maa! Dad! Help me!"
I screamed until my throat felt like it was bleeding. I thrashed against the silver cuffs, the metal biting into my skin, but they didn't budge an inch. Tears streamed down my face, hot and bitter, soaking into the silk sheets beneath me. My face turned a frantic shade of red, and my eyes began to swell from the sheer force of my sobbing. "Please... anybody... help me..."
Then, the heavy sound of a door clicking open cut through my cries.
A shadow emerged from the darkness. A tall, imposing figure draped in solid black. As the figure stepped into the sliver of light, my heart stopped. I recognized the way he movedβthe predatory grace, the sheer power radiating from his shoulders. My gaze drifted to his right hand, and there it wasβthe distinct mark I had glimpsed before I lost consciousness at the bus stop.
"You... you..." I whispered, the words trembling on my lips.
He stepped fully into the light, and the "devil" revealed himself. He was dressed in a black tactical shirt and dark trousers, looking every bit like the king of this dark underworld. His dark, obsidian eyes locked onto my ocean-blue ones, reflecting a hunger so deep it felt like it could swallow me whole.
A slow, chilling smirk spread across his lips. "Me... Butterfly," he said, his voice a low, dark caress that made my entire body shiver.
I stared at him in a daze. He hadn't forgotten me. He hadn't moved on. He had been lurking in the shadows all along, planning this. He had waited for my 19th birthday to snatch me away from the world and lock me in this dark paradise.
"A... Aaryan," I whispered.
It was the first time I had ever said his name to his face. The effect was instantaneous. For a brief second, the icy coldness in his eyes melted. The smirk vanished, replaced by a genuine, soft smile that made a single dimple pop on his right cheek. For that one heartbeat, he looked exactly like the man at the beachβthe handsome, charming Aaryan who had made me laugh.
"Welcome home, my little butterfly," he said, his voice dropping to a velvet rumble.
His eyes began a slow, possessive crawl over my naked body, taking in every inch of the skin he had marked so many times before. In that moment, the terrifying reality hit me with the weight of a mountain.
It was my 19th birthday. My father was supposed to be bringing home a puppy. My mother was supposed to be serving dinner. But I was here. I was shackled to bed in a room filled with shadows, and there was no one in this worldβnot my parents, not the police, not even Godβwho could stop Aaryan RaiΒ from doing exactly what he had planned for me tonight.
I was his birthday gift to himself, and the hunt was finally over.
